Premiere: Dan & Dan – Open Your Mind (Astir Recordings)

As Astir open their 2020 account with six new tracks over two releases, The Waveform Transmitter‘s Ste Knight presents an exclusive premiere of Dan & Dan’s ‘Open your Mind’ from The Sound of Astir Part 2.

Friday 21st sees Astir Recordings drop their first EPs of the decade. Split over two releases, The Sound of Astir features six bold new tracks, with three on each.

Today, we have an exclusive premiere of Dan & Dan‘s soaring debut effort, Open Your Mind, which is taken from The Sound of Astir Part 2. Also appearing on the release are GuyRo and One Week, the new alias of label boss Simon Huxtable.

Open Your Mind is a proggy peak time house number from start to finish, with a definite tribal undercurrent and plenty going on to keep the dancers shaking.

We open with some chunky bottom end percussion-wise, while cymbals and funky claps play around across the top of the mix. The break at the 1-and-a-half minute mark really opens the track up for some rushes through the central nervous system.

Lush pads join the fray as we reach the midpoint, which sees the track stripped back ready for round to and to take us into a close that slowly mellows out into a hypnotic groove.

The Sound of Astir Recordings is available to buy as of Friday 21st February. Pre-order your copy, here.
