WaV, Liverpool’s newest kid on the block, have set the ball rolling on a series of concept nights built around hardware-only performances. An idea, we must admit, that is remarkably insightful, especially considering Carl Cox and Christopher Coe‘s launch of their new imprintAWS. If ever there was a time to launch an event promoting the talents of hardware jockeys, it is now, as WaV will have a rich talent pool in which to spread their net.

March 2nd sees WaV‘s fully repurposed cellar space on Glegg Street, in the heart of the city centre’s dockland area, bathed in the blinking, synchronised lights of Joseph Keevil AKA Saytek‘s hardware setup. The association with Carl Cox is already here, of course. One of Keevil‘s earlier productions was his 2006 EP ‘Codes of Conduct’. Relevant here, because it was released through Evolved Records, a sister label to Intec Records. Both of which are the brainchild of Cox. See where we’re going here? We imagine we’ll be seeing Saytek cover art emblazoned with the AWS logo soon.

Securing Saytek‘s booking and launching a new concept night around it could prove to be a lucrative move for WaV. Their decision to acquire the services of an artist who is currently on the cusp of something monumental, illustrates that the brand have their fingers firmly on the pulse. The pulse generated by the underground artists who are breathing new life into the scene. If one thing is to be said about WaV, it would be that they can clearly spot talent a mile off.

Given the promise yielded in their launch event, WaV are setting the bar high in terms of future bookings. With artists now seeking to hybridise their production and performance output, The Waveform Transmitter has no doubt that the promotion team will succeed in sourcing high quality artists and bringing something a little different to the city in an area that is currently becoming very much de-rigueur for events.
