Chris Nord was born 1980 in Salzburg, Austria. Chris’s early interest for music started with little Casio and Yamaha keyboards as a child and later on was fascinated playing the drums. This was not the ideal instrument for family harmony but brought the groove into his life.

This was the beginning of an evolving passion for electronic music and beats. His style can be described as a float between Deep House, Tech House and Techno all spiced with an organic and dirty touch. Chris Nord is burning his way into the ears of everyone across Europe right now, and here he continues to do so with his EP; Call of Beauty.

Comprising two tracks and their respective remixes, we’re treated to upbeat and driving progressive house from the off with the title track. Grooving yet focused percussion and a heady peak moment leave this in place to truly call some dance floors in to motion.

UK-based Deep House, Tech House and Techno label Gibbon Recordings says “it’s the music of sinister puppeteers, magicians and midnight prancers” which is fine (and exactly the way we like it here at The Waveform Transmitter).

First up we have Call of Beauty which is primarily a progressive house groover that adds a tribal percussive trance-like state so it’s almost Jam-and-Spoon-like (yes, we just coined a phrase!). With its haunting vocal stabs throughout, the track builds up into a smooth and lush breakdown and then back into the melodic atmospherics and business end of the track.

Max Jacob takes on the same track but adds more of a deep percussive feel to his remix you can definitely hear this one being dropped as the sun is going down. It has that lazy summer vibe complete with mindful textures, stabs riding over a warm sub bass, with washed out delayed vox.

Track two Lights Above is dark room Tenaglia type of workout, with slick arpeggios and heavy bass rising towards a angelic breakdown, then finishing in typical progressive manner. Drew Miller completes proceedings with the final remix with more of minimal acidic feel. You could be mistaken not to think its remix or track was on, or part of, Sasha‘s Last Night on Earth label and pod casts. The vibe continues with seedy undertones and electronic whispers then finishes with a no-nonsense approach.

Chris Nord‘s Call of Beauty EP, is available from Beatport on August 28th, and from all other stores on September 11th.
