As the dance community mourns the sad loss of one of its most influential figures, The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight looks back at the legacy left by a trance legend.
Pretty much anyone who ever listened to any music since the mid-90’s will have Robert Miles‘ Children forever etched into their sonic memories. The classic piano trance track defined a generation of ravers who attended trance clubs week in, week out, arms raised in supplication as Miles‘ uplifting production pumped out of the speakers. The track reached number 2 in the UK singles chart, and number 1 in several other countries around the globe. His album, Dreamland, upon which Children featured, reached number 7.
Robert Miles enjoyed further recognition as the producer of One and One, Fable, and Freedom. In addition to production, he also ran his own radio station, Open Lab, which offered a platform for a more leftfield side of dance music.
Sadly, today, we have learned that Robert passed away, aged 47. The cause behind his untimely passing is as yet unknown, but we can all agree that this is a sad loss for the dance community.
You may not walk this earth with us any longer, Robert, but the legacy you leave behind for dance music will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.
Rip Robert Miles well shocked at ur passing.
