Leftfield, purveyors of some of the finest electronic music to come out of the UK, have just announced a new tour and a re-release of Leftism. Here’s The Waveform Transmitter’s Ste Knight with all you need to know.
It is difficult to believe that an album as timeless as Leftfield‘s Leftism is 22 years old. But, it is, which has probably made you feel as ancient as this writer does. Not to worry, as the news of a re-release of the album (due to drop on May 5th alongside a Leftism tour which kicks off on the May 22nd) should put a youthful bounce back in your step.
The album was released in 1995, to critical acclaim. This should come as no surprise. The album was very well received by its listeners, who couldn’t get enough of the sound that spanned several styles yet remained so coherent.
Leftfield managed to do something that a lot of dance music producers never achieve – they had produced an album of house music that was listenable in its entirety. Now, this might seem like a glib remark but consider how often you’ll buy a dance producer’s long-player only to find that 70% of the tracks on there are fluff? Exactly – it happens a lot.
Not with Leftism, though. The album remains fresh to this day. It must be one of the albums in this writer’s collection that has paid for itself a thousand times over. You can always go back to Leftism and it never seems to get old or tired. A truly brilliant piece of work.
So, it is music to our ears here at The Waveform Transmitter that there are plans to release a 22-track version of Leftism with the original 11 tracks fully remastered. Not only that, but there will also be a second CD packed with 11 remixes. So 22 tracks in total. Get it? Those who prefer vinyl can enjoy a remastered and re-cut version of the album on wax.
The anniversary is marked by a tour, which will see Leftfield perform the album in its entirety – an exciting prospect for fans, new and old alike. The tour dates are as follows. We suggest you get tickets ASAP – this is going to be big.
